Confirmed: The Strokes working on fifth album

Albert Hammond Snr confirms that the band are working on the follow-up to 'Angles'

The Strokes have begun work on the follow-up to 'Angles', NME can confirm.

The band, who were last in the UK to headline last summer's Reading And Leeds Festivals, were reported to have been working on new material at the famous Electric Lady Studios in their home city of New York earlier this month, but this was quickly denied by their management and record label.

However, in this week's NME, which you pick on newsstands tomorrow (July 4) or available digitally, guitarist Albert Hammond Junior's father Albert Hammond Senior has revealed that the reports are true and the band are in fact working on their fifth studio album.

Asked if the band were recording, Hammond Senior said: "Albert says that the stuff they're doing is incredible. They're doing it themselves with their friend, engineer and producer. He just says 'Dad, it's incredible'."

Then asked if he thought it would sound different from 'Angles', he said: "I don't think they'll go in a wildly different direction. Obviously the songs will be different, but I think The Strokes are The Strokes; they always will be The Strokes."

As a few of you may have caught wind of, late yeseterday we spilled the beans that we'd had the chance to preview new music from The Strokes. While RCA is keeping most of the details of the forthcoming new full length album (yes, you read that correctly) under wraps, we can tell you that of the two songs we heard, one was a more synth driven track, with the other (the aforementioned, "All The Time") packing a classic Strokes sound. No mention of a tour came up, but we can tell you, you'll be hearing new music from the band sooner than later, with the new album to be released later this year.

Ya esta todo cocinado parece. Piola. Este año tenemos nuevo album ojala, hagan como con le disco anterior que lo sacaron y el mismo año los teniamos aca jeejje. Personal fest 2013 strokes (?)

Yo no sé que esperar para este disco. Igual creo que eso es bueno, porque sin expectativas no pueden decepcionarme, así que veremos.

Es re cumbia pop bailable. Obvio que no me rompio el coco el tema, pero zafable.

me parece que se estan apurando, ojala que no saquen album este año y esto lo digo porque el disco anterior y este nuevo single zafan... pero hasta por ahi nomas. a lo que me refiero es que prefiero que se tomen su tiempo para hacer algo mejor.

A mi me pareció horrible el tema nuevo.

A mi me gusto, sigue la misma linea de Angles y del trabajo solista de Juliancito( ya lo ha dicho, esta muy copado con la onda ochentosa y los sintetizadores), pero espero que no se queden allí y que puedan avanzar. Por otro lado, tengo como una especia de fuga de oxigeno del cerebro que me hace escuchar una dirección de varias bandas en ese sentido; sin ir mas lejos el ultimo de two door cinema. Repito estoy con fuga de oxigeno.
