The Killers: 'We've already written four or five new songs'

Brandon Flowers says his band have been back in the studio

The Killers have begun work on their fourth studio album and have already written a series of new songs, according to singer Brandon Flowers.

Speaking to Zane Lowe on BBC Radio 1 last night (June 21), Flowers said that the band had reconvened and were now working in earnest on new material.

Asked if the band had written any songs for the follow-up to 2008's 'Day & Age', Flowers replied: "We have about four or five. We've put them up on the board and they're sounding good. We think they're strong."

The Killers play two intimate UK dates at London's Scala tonight (June 22) and tomorrow (June 23) in preparation for their headline slot at Hard Rock Calling, which they play on Friday (June 24).

Flowers admitted that the band are apprehensive about the shows, saying: "Those first gigs will definitely be nerve-wracking."

The Killers: 'The next album is going to have more guitars'

Drummer and Big Talk man Ronnie Vannucci confirms the band will hit the recording studio next month

The Killers' next album will have a more guitar-heavy sound, according to drummer Ronnie Vannucci.

Speaking to NME, Vannucci – who makes music as Big Talk – hinted that The Killers' new sound would differ from 2008's Stuart Price-helmed 'Day & Age' album.

He said: "The next album is going to have more guitars. It’s about fucking time!"

Vannucci also confirmed that the band were set to hit the studio. "In October we’re going to start recording in Nashville," he said. "It’s up in the air who's going to produce it, I can’t officially say." He continued:

We have some people in mind, but I don’t want to piss people off and say who it is. All last month we’ve been writing some great Killers songs, it’s really happening. I’m really looking forward to doing this next record, it’s going to sound fucking great.

Vannucci, who is set to play some UK solo shows later this month as Big Talk, said that he was nervous about hitting the stage without his bandmates.

"I always get nerves, no matter what instruments I play, but it's necessary, it's vital," he said. "It makes your voice go high, it's nice."

He promised the shows would be value for money. "We're going have a good fucking time, it's going to be a ball." Vannucci added: "We're going to have lots of fun - we're going to a whisky distillery for a day!"

Asked about the success of Big Talk, Vannucci said: "Maybe [it's successful] because it's rock'n'roll. When you hear records by some of these guys it seems like they are more worried about their hair than the tunes and having a good time. It’s an honest record, it’s pure. It feels like I’m not trying to say anything big and it's the right time for a record like that. "

The Killers will 'definitely' release a new album this year, says Brandon Flowers

But singer stays tight-lipped on exactly when the new LP will be out

The Killers' Brandon Flowers has revealed that the band will "definitely" release a new album this year.

In an interview with BBC Radio One's Zane Lowe, the singer confirmed that the band would put out their fourth studio album in the next twelve months but refused to give a precise release date.

"It's just whether it's [released in] the summer time or the winter time," said Flowers when asked about the band's plans for a new LP, before adding it was "exciting getting everyone in the room to make some noise."

The frontman also said that he was eager to move away from the direction of their previous albums, stating:

The Killers' as-yet-untitled new album will be the follow-up to their 2008 effort 'Day & Age'.
